Password to go to forums.

Well alot of phpbb forums have this and it's quite helpfull at times.So I thought forumotion should have this.
Tell me what you guys think.

I vote yes. There is a MOD I believe that allows you to set a password to a forum or a group. Eventually you can make that password expire or sitch it around every now and then.

I think it's perfect for temporary events, or special gatherings.

I also agree - there is no need for passwords. People forget them, its annoying if you dont have a password to access a part you want.

I agree with Morgan, what's the need for it if setting the permissions is easier?

permissions are easier but it would be good as a little "extra". maybe members can make forums for themselves and make it password protected. only the admin and the forum mods would know the password.

Yes, so you can give some people (in DIFFERENT groups) the password and only they can access it.

But as someone said above.\
All you need to do is change the permissions for all the forums and a guest won't be able to see your forum until he registers or login.

go to admin panel-> forum -> permissions
change the permissions for guests and there you have it

Sorry guy's, but having used similar password protected forums, I think it's a great idea. I was about to post this suggestion myself before I found this. Although you can set permissions, I've found it more practical for allowing access to select members only (i.e., not just moderators, admin etc., but selection of whomever). It's easier to manage by simple password change and PM to those who need access, hence easier/quicker to allow access to individuals, if it's not convenient to set permissions in admin (ie no web access).
I'm definately for - you other guys give it serious consideration.

I voted no. We already have a permissions section where you can choose who you want to see what. I think what we have is good enuf for something like this.
