Transparent ChatBox

I recently set a background image for my ChatBox, and i was curious if there was any way to make the area surrounding things that members say in the chatbox transparent.

as it is now, the background image is only visible behind the user names and in the body of the CB until people type. I was curious if anyone knew if there was a way to make the area behind users' words transparent.
