There seams to be a problem with the images posted on my forum. I tried different PHPBB3 themes to make sure it isn't wrong coding, but if the width of an image is higher than the forum width (or the screen resolution) it won't get re-sized.

Hi,

Go to A-CP => General >> Messages and Emails >> Configuration Images resize: change Width: + Height: as it fits on your forum and save.
