Problem with banned member
Hello everybody. Im an administrator of a forum hosted by forumotion(obviously ) and we(the administrator team) have run into a problem.
For several reasons we decided to ban a member from the forum and we did it.... or so we thought! We banned his account and all his IPs(he had many...) but because of his very very frequent router's change of IP he is able to connect again and again with other accounts. Trying to ban him again and again would only be futile because he would just register again after one or two minutes, when his IP will have changed. So my final question is:
Can we somehow track down his "original" IP and ban it or is there any other way we can ban him once and for good??
Im sorry for the inconvenience of creating a whole new topic here but I couldn't pm an admin and the "Need a technician" topic is off limits as it seems.
The forum is: http://www.onepiecegr-rpg.com/
I really hope that there is a solution for this problem and thank you in advance for the time you are gonna spend.

Re: Problem with banned member
Hello,
Sorry, but you can't really do anything about it if that member keeps on changing ip and can't be permanently banned on the forum, what I can suggest you is to set accounts activation on Administrators if needed, guests that have registered on the forum will need to wait before an admin activates his/her account, but that's not accurate though, since that member is changing IP address, it would be hard too, so another suggestion of mine is to have more moderators to gaurd the forum, order your mods to ban that member on sight. Make sure that there will be amount of mods that will cover the timezones of your forum.

Re: Problem with banned member
*sighs*
I thought so...
I don't find a good solution the account activation to be on us... And the other solution you said is the only one I can think of too...
But there is a big question here... Since he changes IPs how will we recognise him? I mean ok, during his IP analyze, the company he uses to connect to the internet will be shown, but in Greece we have only 3-4 companies which do this so there is a high possibility that the member we will ban, won't be him. Can we somehow find a bit more accurate way to recognise him?? Any pattern we can follow on tracking him down or anything like that??

Re: Problem with banned member
Hi,
I suggest you not to risk a ban if you're not sure if that's the member or not.. I forgot to suggest that you can ban the e-mail of that member so he can't register with same e-mail, in case he made another e-mail, just watch a member if it seems to be suspicious and ban the e-mail of that member again.. this way, he can be irritated and the time will come that he will stop.. The banning of e-mails on registration can be found on this tutorial

Re: Problem with banned member
Obviously the email was banned along with all his IPs and account...
Anyway... We probably gonna go the hard way(and the only). I guess a ton of work awaits us.
Thank you for your advices and your time. Have a good day!

No problem, just open a new topic when new problem appears
Since the thread appears to be solved, I will lock this thread and mark it as solved now. Important: You can also help the moderators to know if your topic/problem is solved by EDITING your first post and marking the topic as solved. Thank you. |
