User deleted herself from forum
A normal user without any moderator or administrator rights deleted herself from my forum. Is there a regular way to do this? I couldn't find any. So was it some kind of hack?

Re: User deleted herself from forum
it's in user options, you have to set it to not allow users to delete their self's,
Then if they want their account deleted they will have to contact a admin to do it.
Admin panel>User & Groups>user options
scroll down to (Allow members to unsubscribe) select no and hit save,
You might also want to consider not to allow them to change user names or email addresses, but that will be up to you
They can only do this if you have (Allow members to unsubscribe) option selected to yes,
If it is set to no then hey wont be able to and will have to contact the admin to delete their account.

That's what's worrying me. I have this set on "no" from Day One.kirk wrote:They can only do this if you have (Allow members to unsubscribe) option selected to yes,

Re: User deleted herself from forum
chack you logs and make sure another admin did not delete the person.
Because like chan said it's not posibil if thats set to no.
what forum version are you using?
And create a test account as a regular member then log in and see if you can deleted your test account.
if your able to delete the account and you have it set to no, then we will have to request a tech, or if you using phpbb2 or punbb i can tell you how to remove the whole thing as if it was never there through a template edit.
So it wont matter if it's on or off in the admin panel, you would be removing it from the board and taking the whole option from embers profile options out of the equation... lol

The log says "Member deleted" in place of the Admin username. And we're a small forum. Only one admin besides me. She didn't do it either.kirk wrote:chack you logs and make sure another admin did not delete the person.

can you give me a screen shot.. i dont know what you mean by in place of the admin name?
it seems like you other admin deleted the person.
if you tested it with your test account as a member then the function is working and only a admin would be able to delete the account/member.

Re: User deleted herself from forum
Here's the screenshot. Salamity Jane is me, and "Member deleted" is not an administrator of my forum...
If you look at the topmost entry, that's when I as admin deleted the test account. My name shows up on the left, not "Member deleted".

Due to legal policies, any member is entitled to delete his account at any time if he wishes to.
That's why we have this particular option :

OK, great. Thanks a lot for the info. I wasn't aware of that. I'm relieved that there was no hacking involved.
Marking the topic solved.
EDIT: Can't mark it solved. When I try to do it, I get a "Mismatch Error"...
EDIT2: Now it worked...
