A solution found for the servers!

Post by Typlo on October 16th 2009, 4:49 am

Dear users,

We have had for some time, downtime and slowdown due mainly to a new provider for our servers. This service, that we had been advised by top IBM engineers, was meant to optimize and anticipate the traffic increase on your forums and our servers.

We bitterly regret that provider choice which currently and after several days of research and development, was unable to provide a stable solution.
Therefore, we decided to leave the service to join back to our previous provider. This change will take place within hours and we are confident about the result.
These new servers are ultra-efficient and will provide you with what we've promised : faster forums, more efficient, 99,9% uptime and enhanced security for your data.

During this migration, your forums will suffer delays. Do not worry, your forums do not risk anything, this maneuver is controlled and your forums should regain their vitality very quickly.

We are still sorry for the inconvenience caused, we fully understand the bitterness generated by such issues.
Therefore, as soon as the stabilization of your forums on the new servers will be established, we will make a gift to all our users and forums. o)

Best regards,
Forumotion Team.

A note for users with blank page (Error 500) and users that have customized templates :

Simply go to http://yourforumaddress.com/admin and browse through Display > templates > and browse all templates categories where you've got customized templates WITHOUT touching them, and it will simply be fixed. Smile

For all other users that had customized templates, you can now use them freely again.

Thanks for the update Typlo! Im glad we are moving back, the recent servers lagged so badly and cut out in the middle of loading... it was really irritating, some people couldn't get on their forums for days.. this is the best choice i say, and IBM should be ashamed of the crappy service they gave Forumotion..

I'm thinking the gift is an 24 feature update Wink

Anyways;
Typlo, are you able to inform us of the new server park's name, not in shame, but honor.

I understand that we are going back to the old servers, but alas, The Godfather contradicts you on the French Support Forum, by saying that we're going to yet another different host .....
Can you explain this please?

The update isn't the gift. Wink

Technically we're going back to the previous provider, but with brand new servers, and an infrastructure that is 2x times bigger than before.

I'm glad the update wasn't so abruptly & speedily uploaded on the new servers; and I would rather wait for you're great surprise, whatever it may be

Well, I hope these new servers pull through like they have done so brilliantly before, again, thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Much appreciated

I too am intrigued by this gift valuation. I would love to have enough credits for a domain registration.

Thanks for the heads up, Typlo. So sorry that your initial plan didn't work out. I really appreciate all your efforts and I'm confident the final migration to the new servers will be a success.
From your message, I gather this will be done in the next few hours. Does this mean today? Please confirm this, so we can let our members know if and when they should expect some downtime/delays.
Thanks again. Very good

Thanks for your support Wink

Yes the plan is to finalize the migration today, a few delays might be encountered but nothing compared to before.
You may not even noticed it, but it has already began.
I'll keep you all tuned when it's finished.
