MORE than 24 hours maintanance
hello,
i saw there are 2 topics about it. and i think even two polls, asking ppl to vote if they would like to have the MAINTANANCE period raising to longer than only 24 hours. one poll is from 5 years ago already and most ppl voted for YES. still nothing changed about that i guess??
so if there is no way to put forum down, for longer than 24 hours, can anyone give me a hint what else to do?
i dont wanna set it ON HOLIDAY cause thats not what i want.
here is my forum so u get what i want
http://expatriate.forumotion.net/forum
dont want ppl to see the topics and all, just this site, this message, for a few weeks.
cause i wanna re do the whole layout without having to worry ppl going on the forum and finding it in a messy state, u know?
any idea anyone?
i already thought about creating an html page, but i cant change the main www adress to it right?
any other ways?
thanks a lot!

Re: MORE than 24 hours maintanance
ok i now created a HTML page. i had one before which led to the main forum (link above).
now i changed that link. so the first HTML page does not lead to the forum anymore (link above) BUT to a second html page, where you can see exactly the image and text i want.
perfect so far.
but now i would like the mainpage (link above) to dissapear for a while.
i mean you cant access it anymore from the first site, but if ppl have it in their browsers and stuff they cud still enter it....
anyway to change THAT link or block it or whatever?
i want http://expatriate.forumotion.net/h2-back-soon to stay
but http://expatriate.forumotion.net/forum to go. or not beeing accessable anymore.

To add, also set is as the homepage, there should be a box for that.
Just simply take it off the homepage when your done.
Hope I helped!
Re: MORE than 24 hours maintanance
sorry, but i dont think you understood what my problem is. i admit its quite confusing.
i have a main html page, thats first site ppl get to, there they click ENTER and that leads them to the forum. now this forum with all its topics i want to be gone for a while, cause i want to do some bigger changments.
as the maintanance mode only lasts for 24 hours, i created a second html page and linked it to main page the ENTER page.
so now when ppl are on first site and click ENTER they wont be directed to the forum but to a second html page showing "site will be back soon... and so on..."
the forum tho does still exist! you could enter it via its usual www adress, which has /forum at the end.
THIS site i want gone for a while. NOT on holiday =p
hmmmmm

Re: MORE than 24 hours maintanance
what forum version are you using?
All you can do is keep the forum in holiday, change all forum permissions so only admin can see. or if you are using punbb or phpbb2 you can edit certain templates like, home page index, forums page, topics list etc..
So you can add your own messages in that and then just delete the templates to go back to default when you want to re-open.
But it may be easier to just change all the forum permissions for only admin to view post reply etc.. and then add a message at the top of your page.
That's about all you will be able to do.
