Solved Auto Application Post

Post by Histori March 25th 2012, 3:23 am

Me and a buddy of mine have recently set up a new site for our growing gaming community. As more members join us, we want applying to our community efficient and easy them. We believe that an automatic post would be the easiest way.

Our hopes is to turn our Contact Us form into an application form, and have those answers transfered and posted into a new thread in our forums. Is it possible to do this with Javascript? If so, how would I be able to do this?

Solved Re: Auto Application Post

Yes it is possible by creating a form and fixing the values of the input fields to matching topic/forum.

Here's the thing though, the user must have access to post in the forum in which you want the applications to be sent. So if its an admin-only forum, that they do not have permission to post in, then it will not work.

I'll let RD do this, he knows what he's doing Smile

The form is coming up however the topic title is not and I am receiving the error that I need to insert a topic title. Does the USERNAME code have to be placed in a specific widget?

I'm sorry, but it is still not coming up. Is the USERNAME suppose to show up in the announcement?

I apologize. It now works.

Now as for the form fields, how would I set each question as it's own field and values to be posted in the topic?

Okay, so I am able to make a new question field, but when submitted it just posts the answer to the first question. How do I make sure that the question(in different color) along with the answer are posted with the rest?

The forms action page (the server side scripts dealing with the form) are designed to only take one field for the post content named 'message', so to have all questions in the post content, before sending, all the answers would need mashed into the one field of 'message'. It's okay I'd you don't know what I mean, RD will, hopefully Razz

Solved Re: Auto Application Post

Post by Histori March 27th 2012, 5:15 am

Thank you! There is just 3 other things I need concerning the form:

1. For some of the questions, answers are expected to be in paragraph form. The regular text fields makes it hard to write an extensive answer. Is there any way I can make these answer fields larger?
2. When submitted, I would like the original questions in the color red with the submitted answers the original color.
3. Just for neatness, I would like an extra space line between each question so it all doesn't look like one giant ball of text.

If you would be able to do these final things for me when you have the time, I would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!
