permission to write on someones profile?
I'm trying to understand how you can get permission to write on someones profile page? I have the advanced profile mode activated and when viewing someones profile there is a link you can click to post a message to there profile page. I tested it and click the link and it said I do not have permission to write on that persons profile. How do you get permission. My guess is you have to be friends with them fist in the friends and foes management and once you are friends then you can post to there profile page. I need to know for sure so I can pass the information on to my members. Thanks

You should have a comment field already set up,
You have to set Who can modify the profile field value to moderators, if you want to allow the member to edit or write in there then you can give him accessed to.
Then you choose who to Display this field for users that are at least Admin, mods, members or guest, and you could add default content if you wanted to or a url icon,
Actually we use this here for staff only, Basically to keep track of members warnings/reminders, But that would be the way to do it.

it's right there in the profile comment field. It's like the thired or fourth option down.
It's either set to mods, member them self, or both.

No you don't understand, I know where the comment box is, but where in the Admin panel do I change the settings for the comment box?
I see some options in the profile General options and I have every box ticked. But members STILL have to be that persons friend to comment. I want any member to be able to comment not just friends. I have no idea how to set that up.

Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Hi, the members will need to go to their preferences in their profile and allow visitor messages to be posted.
They should see 'Allow visitor messages on my profile' options.
They should see 'Allow visitor messages on my profile' options.
Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Yes I seen that, but what is Kirk talking about. I don't see any options for that message field anywhere.
Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Kirk's talking about personalised profile fields, which is something different to visitor messages.
Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Ok, where do I find in thew Admin panel what kirk is talking about?
Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Personalised profile fields can be found at:
1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. Users & Groups Tab
3. Profiles (on the left, under Users)
4. Either add ( ) or edit ( ) a profile field
5. And you should see 'Who can modify the profile field value ?'

Re: permission to write on someones profile?
Ok, I found it. Yes it was visitor messages I was wanting to enable for everyone to be able to post without being a friend, but I see that isn't possible. The members have to change that setting in the preferences like you pointed out.
The reason I thought of that is because on Vbuliton forums (sp) you don't have to be the persons friend to comment on there profile, the default setting is that everyone can comment, but you can change that default setting to only allow friends. I wanted to set the default to automatically allow everyone to be able to post just like Vbulitin, and of course allow the members to change that to only allow friends if they wanted. Forumotion is the exact opposite.
