Under DDoS Attack
First topic message reminder :
My forum at www.smokinelite.com is currently under a DDoS attack. I'm sure because it shows 1600+ users on line rather than the usual ~350.
Can anything be done about this?
Thank you

Re: Under DDoS Attack
Okay so here's the dealio.
I went through your CSS and didn't find anything that would be stopping the username colors. However; I did find about 1000 lines of error code in your CSS. So i fixed that for you.
If you want your new CSS its at this link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30174658/newcss.css
and just incase it messes up your design, here's a link to the old CSS too, as a backup:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30174658/oldcss.css
(The links are just CSS.. no viruses and crap. Just the CSS is too long to post as a message.)

Re: Under DDoS Attack
Forumotion has in place a request limit, basically a DDoS attack would be meaningless. The IP address sending all the requests would hit the limit and basically be locked out of your site for a while everyone else still had access.

My CSS Stylesheet is empty (the one I get when I go admin panel > display > colours > CSS Stylesheet). Adding the code you made for me doesn't change anything.
Thank you for fixing the CSS errors. I'm just not sure how to replace the CSS if my CSS Stylesheet is empty as that's the only way I know how to edit CSS for the forum.
Re: Under DDoS Attack
Paste the CSS in that colors CSS Stylesheet then below it deactivate basic css.

Re: Under DDoS Attack
That didn't change anything either. The forum still looks the same and name colours don't work. Maybe the CSS that you modified didn't have forum name colours applied.
What forum names are meant to look like:
Re: Under DDoS Attack
yeah for me it's only showing two groups. Have you tried resynching your forum?

Re: Under DDoS Attack
Hello,
I've checked this out with the techs.
In fact, all your problems came from your groups coloration. What you thought was a malicious attack was actually a technical maintenance in response of problems on the server because of your groups colors.
So, you should change the title of the thread
They have now disabled the functionality in your forum, as they're still working on this issue.
Until further notice, you can't be able to apply these colors.
Thanks for your understanding

Re: Under DDoS Attack
Thank you for the information Leeloo.
My forum is currently down for maintenance, thank you for working on the problem.
EDIT: It's been 3 hours now and we're still under maintenance. Also we're experiencing the same phenomenon as usual where there are ~1500 guests online at once instead of the usual ~300, and they all came on when the maintenance started. If you refresh the homepage a few times the page loads and you can scroll to the bottom and see the impossible number of guests online. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Hello, I am one of the Admins of Smokinelite.com. Yes the maintenance is over, and I found out why that was occurring. We were infact being botnetted, and the reason I know that is because the bot-netter confronted me about it, and after a long chat, he has decided to stop. He was being paid by another forum community to do these malicious acts, and the reason I know that is because he gave me every bit of information from our forum that could be used for a botnet.
Now on to more pressing issues. While the maintenance has infact stopped, our user colors are still not working properly. In the usergroup panel, it shows all the colors we have set for different ranks of our community, yet they do not show up on the actual forum.
If you guys can fix that issue, we will be fully restored to our previous state.
Thank you guys for the work. I thought it would be a good idea for me to post here as the owner of the forum is currently on vacation, and we look forward to getting this fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Corowns

Re: Under DDoS Attack
Hello,
The techs are actually trying to fix your issue.
They can't guarantee when you'll have your colors back and, above all, there's no assurance that such malicious attacks won't start again.
I'll let you know if I've any update
