    Hidden Index Page? Empty Hidden Index Page?

    Post by HogwartsAcademy September 19th 2012, 12:18 am

    On my forum, how can I hide the index page so the only way to navigate around the site is by using the sidebar? Above each of my forums, I have a picture that helps you navigate to other forums by clicking on the picture (image map), I just need to know how I can make it so I can hide the index list so that they HAVE to use the sidebar or what not?

    This is where I got it from, http://www.hexrpg.com/

    I might be wrong, but you could just hide the images you use up top to navigate, just remove the image then it should be blank, to have the sidebar navigation the way it is on hexrpg, would have to be done with sidebar widgets.

    Hope this makes sense.

    What do you mean up top? Like the 3 that I have under my banner? What difference will that make if I take them out? Sorry I really don't understand what you're saying, I'm feeling really clumsy.

    Hi,

    You want to remove the Navigation Bar right?

    Try this codes:
    Code:
    a[href="/calendar"]{
            display: none;
            }
            a[href="/groups"]{
            display: none;
            }

    Note: Get the part that is after the url, "/memberlist" for example.

    No I don't, I want to remove the Index Page (forums +categories list) so they HAVE to use the navigation bar + sidebar to navigate, they can't just scroll down all the forums and categories.

    If you want it exactly like the hex website then you'll need to use a HTML page. Manually link all the navigations to their exact pages, and link one of them to your forum so that your members can still access it.

    I don't know if I really understand what you want, that's why my answer may not be so clear.

    But I reread your question and, the only way to hide or remove the index page from view ( as your homepage) would be to use the portal as a homepage or as I suggested make a HTML page and make that your homepage.
    On the HTML homepage you would then need to write the code for the sidebar that you want.

    Hope I helped.

    Yes you did quite help me, although how do I clear the Index page out of site? Disable the navigation bar?

    You can't technically clear it ( delete it), as far as I know. What you would do is create a html page , this would have your navigation sidebar right?

    You set that HTML page as your home page so that when people come to your site it's the first thing they see. They will have to use your navigation sidebar to get around the site. So the index (forum) won't be anywhere in sight unless one of the navigations links to the forum, then taking the to the forum.

    Also with a blank HTML page there will be no top navigation so you won't need to worry about that.

    Or I could just make the Portal the redirection, and delete the Navigation bar.. would that work nicely do you think?

    Right, to remove the top navigation bar, use the code sir chivas gave you in your css.
    If your navigations are pictures, delete the pictures from pic management. Make the portal your homepage and use widgets to replicate the sidebar navigation.

    I realized that even if do all this, people who navigate using the sidebar or whatever I use, once they enter a forum, it will show the sub forums at the top for you to click on.

    (Category) :: (Forum) :: (topic)

    So basically all they need to do is click on the (forum) one and they go back to the index just like that. My wish is to find a way to take out the whole index page so they can't see it at ALL no matter where they go.

    Sorry - what is this code supposed to do?
