EDIT:
TEMPORARY FIX!If you edit your hosts file to set one of the six IPs I list below to your site's domain,
you can access the site! You will need to Google to find your hosts file (every OS is a little different, so I'm not even going to try to detail how to find it). Add something to the effect of:
173.193.11.23 reverie.forumotion.net
...to the end of your hosts file, save, flush your computer's DNS, and voila! You should have access back. Note: You won't want to leave it this way forever, but this should satisfy most folks' immediate problems until the FM techs can sort out the underlying cause.
For the FM techs:
I can access all the forums, including all the ones listed in this thread, nor have I had any problems at all today (without manipulating my hosts file).
Forum URL: http://reverie.forumotion.netLocation: Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
ISP: CenturyLink (formerly Qwest)
One of my friends still is unable to access the site:
Location: Michigan, USA
ISP: Frontier
I'll try to give some additional information...I'm a sysadmin at my day job, I know how crazy (and frustrating!) these kinds of problems can be. Usually, it's better to have too much info than not enough. Here are the couple of things that I've actually had to deal with that are geographic in nature:
Does FM use a content delivery network (CDN) of kind? If so, perhaps it's a matter of some CDN nodes being down (e.g., our CDN provider is performing maintenance on some nodes this evening, which can degrade performance or result in an actual service outage).
I also see on
http://www.internetpulse.net that a few ISP providers are experiencing high latency. Depending on the ISP's location to the servers that host FM sites, this could impact performance in certain geographic areas and not in others.
EDIT: Interesting little tidbit of extra info...
I ran an nslookup on my domain (reverie.forumotion.net) and got these six IPs back: 173.193.11.24, 74.86.217.213, 74.86.217.214, 173.193.11.21, 173.193.11.22, 173.193.11.23
I tried to ping my domain and it resolved 74.86.217.214. My friend in Michigan gets the message, "Ping request could not find host reverie.forumotion.net. Please check the name and try again."
Note: My friend in Michigan is who I tested the hosts file change on. She's now able to access any of the sites she wants, so long as she enters something in her hosts file.
