Re: Reading PM of members
Yes you can. > Private messages
I know this because it happened to me, and I saved the IM. An admin slipped up in an IM session, mentioning an RE from a member located in my PM that I myself had just read. I was taken aback and didn't mention it then, but did in my resignation.
So yes, it can happen . . . read what Zinex says at the bottom.

Re: Reading PM of members
The only problem with changing their password, logging in and reading their PMs is that you don't know what their old password is, so you can't reset their password. So now the user can't log in anymore until you tell them the new password. Why do you want to read them anyway? They aren't meant for you to be seen, that is why they are private messages.
Re: Reading PM of members
. . . I completely agree, why would they want to?
I guess there is a way, as further explained by Zinex here:
Where is the private message watcher?

Re: Reading PM of members
Thanks for all the replies. Just one thing...I was once told that PM is for Personal Message and not Private Message. And that Admin can read Personal Messages but not Private ones (I am not talking about this forum in particular).
Re: Reading PM of members
no pm is private message though many people say they should be called personal messages because there are so many hacks out there to read them. It doesnt make it right though, if members are sendng messages because they are under the belief they are private an admin should not read them unless under very severe cirumstances and even then, it is a serious breach of privacy that will no doubt upset members. I have done it three times, in the case of spamming, and it rocks the boat, so i wouldnt unless you are certain there is abuse of the system going on.
Re: Reading PM of members
ok so that makes sense. I am part of another forum - not a forummotion forum - and there were some issues going on about the Admin so I remembered they closed the forum for the whole day and when it was reopened, we all had to request a new password to access it. I assume that means that they were reading all our PMs then...
