Member has email at our site?

So my forum is http://8bitforward.forumotion.com
I banned a user today for trolling/spamming a lot, when I looked at their email address. It was their username (which is a bunch of letters, let's say it was bob) at our website. So, replacing their name with bob for security, it was bob@8bitforward.forumotion.com . Uhhhhh, is this possible? Did they have to hack to get this email? Any help is appreciated.

Not at all. Your forum automatically activates accounts, so that user does not need to access said email, however, they can't access it regardless. I already made a test on your forum with "test-fa", it accepts the email as being valid, but it's not.

Ah, thanks! Just quickly, where would I click to make them have to check an email first, before they can log in?

Go to Administration Panel > Users and Groups > User options

Tick "User" for "New accounts activation" :
