In progress Forum private for members

Post by bobm October 5th 2015, 12:33 pm

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering how I can make sure that guests can't read anything on my forum unless they get an account?

The thing is, we set up the forum for a small community to discuss and we don't want others that haven't presented themselves to us, to read the personal stuff we write on the forum.

I found out that I can make each forum on the forum only for members and moderators etc. but this means I constantly need to check if I didn't forget to remove guests from the options of who can read it.

Isn't there an option to make the entire forum members-only with login etc.?

    Many thanks!

    Bob

    Hello,

You sure can, when you create new sections in acp (admin panel)-->Categories & forums--> Make sure that under permissions 'Can read the topics' is unticked under Guests. You may want to be in the 'advanced mode' of the acp (admin panel) for this.

Create a group for this certain section then set the permissions for that section.

Please remember that if you hide all your forums Google can not see your forum at all you need to have some parts open so google can do it's job on making your site seen in the search ranking on google and other search sites.

best thing to do is have 2 or more that can be seen by anyone but your main post's hid.

as for setting your forum to hide all forum.

there is a much more easy way to hide your forum so only members can see it

ACP >> General Tab >>  Forum private for members Configuration Forum >> Categories and forums go to one of your forums at the top and click on the Perms Now set your settings to members and remove the guest tick.

    then save.

Now the next step on each of your older forums click the cog >> Edit Now you should see this page

set all your forums to the one you just changed the settings on and then hit Save

do this to all the forums until your done.

when making a new forum make sure you do the same to that one aswell

Then all your forum will be seen by only members.
