    Solved Changing Versions

Post by Guest November 17th 2015, 3:15 am

    Technical Details

    Forum version : #phpBB2
    Position : Founder
    Concerned browser(s) : Google Chrome
Who the problem concerns : Yourself
    Forum link : http://draxgd.forumotion.com

    Description of problem

This ain't really a problem but more like a question. Now I've seen the features and many had said that the version phpbb3 is the best to have and I currently have phpbb2. I read that you can simply change the version anytime and I have a few questions regarding if I did switch my forum to the version phpbb3.

1.) Would my data be corrupted? Like would all the posts be deleted for example.

2.) What would happen in regards to coding? CSS for example.

Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello,

Yes you pyschially change the forum version any time. Posts and data will NOT be deleted or affected by this. CSS and/or javascript is the primary problem in switching, you would need to recode ALL your stuff for phpb3. If you have alot of codes that affect your design and functionality of your forum, it could be a real pain, most likely would require downtime.

I also use phpbb2 on my forum and I personally won't be switching anytime soon. If your was still very new, was a test forum or else in active I would say go for it, however, if your forum is very old, very active I would say don't do it, it really is not worth it. You can still get codes made or adjusted to work for phpbb2, most coders will make you a version if you request one. As long codes can still be made and the forum can still function as it is, why change it? That is just my personal thoughts on that.
