IP Address ban problem (?) Empty IP Address ban problem (?)

Post by kim_2008 March 24th 2008, 6:39 pm

I was successfully able to ban an IP range (using the *) for about three weeks. Then suddenly one of my administrators "claimed" to be unable to log on because they were being banned. I checked and this person's IP is nothing like the banned IP. They claimed they could use one computer on their home network to log in, but were banned using another. When I removed the banned IP, this administrator claimed to be able to log on again.

My question is, am I being tricked here or is it possible for a banned IP range (like 1.200.617.*) to disrupt another entirely different IP address (like 293.413.617) These are just made up IP addresses, BTW, that I just used for example.

It shouldn't usually disrupt an IP range such as the latter. Are you trying to ban IP's from certain countries?

No, not particularly although this banned user *is* in another country.

It would seem if there were a problem other users would have complained but only this one administrator, who, as I said, claims to be able to use another computer on their home network to log in.

He doesn't have multiple accounts has he? You didn't ban him under another name?

I simply banned him based on an IP range, because all his posts came from that range. Why would my administrator be banned, too, as she claims?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "banning him under another name."
I never actually banned his user, just the IP address. Later on I deleted his user.

I mean does your Admin have two accounts... if you banned the IP address of one it would ban the IP address of the other too!

It's the only explanation I can think of.

Not that I know of, she doesn't have two accounts. She is in my country, while the banned IP is in another. But I see what you mean. I have been trying to figure out why the banned IP would be affecting her computer, and there must be some connection....

Unless she is just trying to get me to lift the ban!!!

She could be wired into another country's network, but that's unlikely.

I think she might be trying to get the ban lifted. One ban wouldn't ban her too - no way!

Hope this helps!

There are others here that are having banning problems. See this thread, and if it seems to be the same type of problem you are experiencing, we'll move it over there.

oops I forgot the link. hehehe here it is https://help.forumotion.com/need-of-a-technician-f3/only-topic-banned-members-t14200.htm

I visited the other thread referenced but it is locked so I coudn't reply.

I may have to ban someone later today and I wanted to make sure the issue with Admins getting banned themselves when they ban someone has been fixed. I assume so since the thread was locked.
