    Technical Details

    Forum version : #phpBB2
    Position : Administrator
    Concerned browser(s) : Internet Explorer
Who the problem concerns : All members
    Forum link : http://gato.forumation.com

    Description of problem

Can you tell me if this forum will automatically email all members when a new topic/question is posted? I know each member can select yes for email notifications on replies to their topic but our organization needs a private forum that will email all members when a new topic is posted so members will know something was posted in order to answer.

    Hello,

The answer to this question is yes and no I believe.

Yes it will send an email notification everytime someone replies to a topic that is being watched. I do not believe, however, it will send a notification out for new topics made though. I am not 100% sure personally because I disable notifications of this kind on every forum I am a member of (I personally do not need them), so I am not 100% sure, but to the best of knowledge what I have answered with is what happens.

Thank you for replying. Best I can tell it doesn't email at first post. Is there any way that could be added as an option under profile settings - notifications? Our members wouldn't know to look at forum unless they received an email that someone has posted a new topic. We are trying to simplify our way of getting questions and answers amongst our County Tax Offices and we think a forum would be great but we unless they check it all day long, Tax Commissioners wouldn't know there's a post/question to reply to. Can you please help us?

I am not sure if there is a way this can be accomplished with code or anything.

As for getting the option added to the options on Forumotion that is not up to me, I am a volunteer support forum staff, I have no control over anything serverside.

All I can recommend is that you create a suggestion for this option in the suggestions section of the support forum and hopefully one day it may be added.

In the meantime, I don't know, but it might be possible to do with code somehow, but I am not sure and I don't know if it is or not since the emails are set out by the servers, but if you would like me to, I will leave this open for a day or two in case it may be possible to do with code and another user or staff knows if it is possible and how to do it.

Yes, Please leave it open as we need a forum that has that option. We have been looking into several but forumotion was pretty simple to set up, etc. The other one we had looked at, had that capability but the forum itself was not user friendly. Is there any way you could ask someone that may know if this can be set up or not. I won't lie....I am not forum knowledgeable, and not sure exactly where to post what. I wish I could actually speak to a live person.

For topics: click the Start Watching Forum link at the bottom of each forum you want to watch.  I believe you do receive an email.
