Important [Only Topic] Technical maintenance on Forumotion domains.

Post by SLGray March 8th 2018, 7:44 am

    Hello,

For information, since early March 2018, we have started technical maintenance on some Forumotion base domaion names.

In order to guarantee the availability and the stability of the forums which these domains enter in the composition of their Internet addresses, we will carry out a transfer of these forums on the default language domain of the forum (For example: Forumotion.com if the forum default language is English, serbianforum.info if the forum default language is Serbian,...etc) or other domains when the chosen final URL is not available.

Here is the list of concerned domains for the month of March 2018. (This list is not exhaustive and will evolve every month throughout 2018).

    See the concerned domains:

Note that forums having a personalized domain name acquired via Forumotion and having forced the URL redirection will not be affected by this transfer which will be completely transparent.

As a reminder, if for one reason or another you no longer find your forum URL, you can follow the following steps:

    1. You have to connect to your founder tools using your foundation email address and your foundation password
    2. Go to the "direct connection" tab
    3. Fill in your founder username and your forum password

Then you end up on the forum admin panel without needing to know his new address Wink

We apologize for the inconvenience :rose:

I think this is more important info, that you failed to mention:

SLGray wrote:If you change the address of your frum (forum1.forumactif.com > forum2.forumactif.com) there is a redirection, but if you change it again ( > forum3.forumactif.com ), the redirection from forum1.for... won't work anymore.

brandon_g wrote:I have news on this, so current re direct will end March 22nd in your case. If you change the ending to the domain no to something else we will still support, the re direct will no longer work.

The re direct lasts until the domain name expires. Which is different in every single case. In the case of huhohi.com it is March 22nd.

Either way SEO will not be effected as a of the changes.

Hello, my forum (http://sts-forum.forumieren.de) has some troubles. I am even unable to log in now, I only see the advertisement, is it a consequence of the maintenance? I hope I post in the right topic.

@SarkZKalie No, they will not be available anymore. The goal is to group the forums on the most used domains to facilitate their management and maintenance especially with regard to SSL certificates and future package updates.

If your forum has a domain name acquired through Forumotion and the redirection of the base URL is forced to the personal domain, the change of base URL will be transparent and not visible that's why we recommend using a custom domain name Wink

If your forum falls into this situation, you can log into the forum's utilities with the creation email. When you login, you should be able to see the new link.

No relation to this topic...! SSL installed on February 11, 2017 and expired on February 11, 2018 without any renewal. If you want to secure your forum with an SSL certificate, you must install a new one Wink

    Hi guys.
I have two questions regarding domain name change:

    1) after automatic change of our domain from http://musicarenje.forum3.biz to http://musicarenje.serbianforum.info everyone who uses some of our old links or through web search click to link http://musicarenje.forum3.biz are redirected to http://musicarenje.top-forum.net/
This second forum http://musicarenje.top-forum.net/ has nothing to do with us. We just want that old links for our forum transfer people to our new domain. Because we have over 500 members and over 33000 posts during last 10 years, and this really makes an issue for our members.
    How to solve this problem?

2)second question is regarding manual change of domain name. Guy who have created our forum has passed away a few years ago. So we needed to change email for logging as Admin (main administrator/creator of our forum) because we weren't able to use his creation email.
How can we access forum utilities if that is possible?

Thanks in advance on your patience.

    @PACERi

1: You might want to send a newsletter in order to let the members know about the change of the URL. This way everyone will note Wink

    @mpelmmc
    Thanks on fast respond! cheers
    1) I just have send newsletter a few minutes ago. But the problem with redirecting our old links to the another forum and not our is still a problem. How to resolve that?
2)Thanks, but this doesn't help me, because on utilities page here his old creation email is still valid and not the new one.
I have the old password for Admin (founder) account (that was connected to founders creation email) and I have used it to reset email account connected to admin account on our forum after he passed away but I can't access his email account to set up new founders email if you understand me.

    1. If you are referring to search engines, it will take time for those search engines to index your forum again. You can speed up the process by sharing the content on social media.

Looks like the concerned domains list is getting larger Confused
I've seen changes in domains which are not in that list, and they were pretty common (I thought the most common were out of danger).

forumotion.com (in the case I've seen it changed to board-directory.net)
foroactivo.com (in the cases I've seen it changed to activo.mx)

If your previous link had one of these domains and now you can't locate the new one, try luck with these substitutions.
    I hope this helps.

    Hello,

@Wecoc, this isn't the same issue but yes, some forums of these domains have been moved on secondary domains. For technical reasons, forums with less than 50 posts have been moved from the main domains (forumotion.com in particular) to secondary domains such as board-directory.net, iftopic.com, darkbb.com, all-up.com, team-talk.net, your-talk.com, bestgoo.com Wink These forums are free to move back on the main domain if the administrators want to.

Shadow, I hope I don't sound dense, but does this mean if I buy an annual premium package with a .com domain,

    1) Forumotion will never change the url or domain name as long as I keep up the subscription cost?

    2) Even if I have only a few posts per month?

    3) And will I be able to select a .com instead of .net? I found a new .com name that I'd like to have and these are easier to remember, so I need to know if I'd have control over that.

    Thank you.

This is only about the original domain name of your forum, not a domain name you purchase.

    Example -

    Original Domain Name:  help.forumotion.com  (changed)

Purchased Domain Name:  help.com  (not changed)

If you let the domain name (help.com) expire, or you removed it, your original domain name could be different if it is listed in the list in the first post.
