Founder Can't Change Founders Name

Hi everyone,

This is a bit convoluted but I hope someone gets a laugh at my expense.

I am the founder of the above forum board. The board is set to allow members to change their usernames. My original founders username was simply Admin. Yesterday I successfully changed it to reflect part therof my name and part therof a close forum friend's name. I made a typo so I changed it again. In doing so I made another typo. (oh yes I did   ) I tried to change it and got a red and gray warning that the name was disallowed. I thought why? I tried again with the same result. To be sure it wasn't just that particular name that was being disallowed I tried other names - all disallowed. I suspect embedded security is now preventing the change given that I've had a go at it a few times.

Please! I'm in trouble. What can I do to change it to what I want now please members?

I've been somewhat loath to post the results because through my own silliness and forgetfulness I've caused you all unnecessary work. I really apologise most sincerely.

So, here it is. When we first started I must have, as skouliki suggested, censored some usernames. The one's I've since been trying to use were among them. Today I managed to change the founder name to what we wanted.

Thank you guys, all of you, from the bottom of my heart for your patience and perseverance with me. All I can say is that I've suffered a longer lasting than usual, 'Seniors Moment' .

Best wishes for a wonderful Xmas and an especially safe one.

Have you tried changing it in the admin panel?

i think that if it was too many times in a small period then yes it might be disabled due to security reasons since its the founder's username 
i suggest you wait 24 hours and retry after

Yes you can any change the username 2 times in one day this is to stop bot's and hackers.

Please try again tomorrow / 24hrs after the time you did the change.

I’ll try again tomorrow and leave this open for the moment. Hopefully it will be another ‘solved’ for us.

For the almost totally illiterate with this sort of ‘stuff’ it’s been a steep learning curve. Please know just how thankful Barry and I are for your kind guidance.

Hi again everyone,

I'm pleased I left this open. I've tried and tried again but when I do I get this message... "Error - Sorry, but this username has been disallowed."

To be sure it's not just a particular username that is being disallowed, or one that was used before I've tried different usernames.

Do you guys think this is something I should be contacting Forumotion about?

When was the last time you changed the founder's name?

It was on 12th December that it was last changed. I tried again yesterday but with the same result.

The process I'm using...

Admin Panel > Users & Groups > Special Users > click on founder username > Founder Profile > Modify > Save

Can IK ask are you logged in as the founder or an admin ?

As only the founder can change the founders account name
also what browser are you using ?

Yes Ape, I’m logged in as the founding member. I’m using Google Chrome.

Can you try and use some other browser ?

I know that Chrome has lots of bug when doing things in our ACP.

My advice is use Firefox or Edge for Any changes made in your Admin Control panel.

Well, I've given it plenty of time and I've tried Edge, Firefox, Google, Chrome and a couple of others. Sadly I'm getting the same message when I try to change the founders name, "That name has been disallowed."

I'm positive I'm not doing anything wrong. I've outlined what I'm doing and someone here would have corrected me if I was.

Is it possible to have someone from Forumotion log in to our board in the hope they can identify what's wrong or perhaps something my tiny brain is missing?

Still hoping for a solution. Thanks guys and bye for now :-)

Hello @Roo53,

The only way to make sure it's not Forumotion is to tell us the username you are trying to change it to. That way, we can test it out on our forums and if it's not allowed we'd report this to the main office.

Hello Crow, and my apologies. I sent a PM your way before I saw the 'no support via PM' note on your post, so I guess it's safe to post this info here. Sorry, I'm just so unsure of things.

The original username was simply Admin. It is currently Melianne Failsafe.

We would like to use any of the following (in order of preference) all of which have been disallowed...

VSC Admin, Vipers Admin, Group Admin, Administration, Admin.

It's a vexing sort of issue when you think we changed it a couple of times without trouble but it doesn't seem to matter now what username we try and change to, the system disallows it. It'll teach me to be more careful, that's for sure. I do hope you are able to help.

maybe accidentally you have forbidden the username Admin

I have tested this on my forum and have had no problems at all so i can't see it as a bug on our systems.

Can you try one more thing for me please ?

ACP >> General tab >>  Forum >> Security >>

Find:

Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames. :

Change the setting then save
Then try and change the name again.

if it don't work then change it back to how you had it to start off with.

Are you using a feature in your browsers to save passwords and usernames?  If yes, turn it off and try to change the username.
