    Solved Individual User Permissions

Post by Darquarius June 20th 2020, 3:31 am

So, I saw a thing in the FAQ about this and tried to follow it's instructions, but the items it's telling me to look for in the ACP don't appear to be there.

Specifically what I'm trying to do is enable permissions for specific users on my forum so that each member can have a private forum to post things back and forth with administrators. I could back door this sort of thing by simply giving each user an individual user group, but that seems far more tedious and complicated than it should be, so I'm wondering what it is I'm not seeing in the ACP that would enable this kind of thing.

    Hello,
Maybe your ACP it's not in the advanced mode ? Connect to yor administration control panel and check in the first page the mode it's not marked "Simple" and if this your case, just change it to Advanced to show all the options.

Now, to assign individual permissions for any user, you just go Users & Groupos -> Users management > Find the user you want to asign > Click on the eye (Permissions) and mark the forums that you want to authorize as moderator.

Otherwise, you can simply create a new group and add he/she to the new group. Here are some tutorials:

Okay, so, after reading through the FAQ articles linked. I did, in fact, discover a way to do this, though it's a little on the convoluted side.

Step 1: create the forum to be shared with an individual member. When setting permissions, set them for 'administrator' and then make the target individual the 'moderator' of that forum, but don't put the member in the moderator user group.

Step 2: You will then have to enable individual permissions for that forum for the member in question.

Step 3: Remove said member's moderator status in the forum. They will retain all permission you gave them previously, with the forum treating the individual member as though they were a unique user group.

Like I said, it's a little complicated, and there's some back and forth between ACP areas to do it, but it does get the job done.
