does anyone know how to make portal default home page or do you just have to give out portal url?

Admin>>Modules>>Portal>>Install.

If you have installed the portal, visitors will be redirected to it if they just enter your forum adress (ex:http://mandysfluffingzoo.dogoo.us). If they use the index-adress (ex:http://mandysfluffingzoo.dogoo.us/index.htm), they will start on the main forum page.
