Forumotion is cool?
Re: Do you like Forumotion?
This question feels retarted to me lol. I would not work for ForuMotion.com unless I liked them and I DO.
Re: Do you like Forumotion?
Nope I can't stand it! The Admin are mean, the Global mods got cooties, the mods (except for sunny_D) are sleeping after the admin are waking up.

Re: Do you like Forumotion?
hehhe... lol the poll is great.
How can i not support the forumotion enterprise?
I love the features, the admin panel is easy to use... i don't know about security... cos i liked having MySQL data under control but at least with the restriction i don't have to worry about loss.
And you know whats the best part... forumotion themes are original (not counting adapted themes and default ones)
For example the themes I do... cannot be found on other phpbb hosting sites. yay
Fm all the way

Re: Do you like Forumotion?
Interesting question. To me it is not a simple matter of "liking" that would relegate my opinion to a simple feeling of pro or con. I would say this the forum is less than helpful, I have found more entries from moderation staff which seem more concerned with stating the rules rather than answering questions - more smart-aleck (unprofessional, unecessary public remarks) than thoughtful help. For example I have seen moderator remarks stating the incorrectness of a post with no statement of what the correct answer is.
I am a marketing professional and once managed a large scale csv department in a major company and some of the actions I see here are a clear indication of a lack of basic guidance and aversion to review, implementation and follow-up of the most basic of customer service techniques. I simply don't understand why someone can't see how much it diminishes an excellent operational service. I think each person who uses a free host has at least a small expectation of "graduating" to the next level - why would forumotion conduct itself in a manner that eliminates it from consideration to be that next level host?
OK having said that I think the actual operation and implementation of how you have implemented phpBB is great, if you could bring that same capability to support personnel, staffing, processes and procedures to maximize users ability to use the service and deliver timely, informative, effective support you would maximize value. For the right people - this is not an impossible task. It is all too often easy to allow go unchecked and not recognize how detrimental poor service is to an excellent product or service. Long-term, it is easier for a company with an average product or service and excellent customer service to be successful than a company with an excellent product or service and poor customer service. When people don't "like" and find it difficult and trying to use your business they will always find someone they "like" whether the product is demonstrably better or not. ( Like here defined as being confident you are a valued customer and are given timely, accurate, effective, efficient, helpful and capable support and feeling comfortable dealing with the provider of that support )

I like you can answer the question as I like. My intention is to give a thoughtful answer rather than a meaningless (in my view show of hands). If your opinion can be summed up so simply - I have no problem with that - mine cannot ((^_^).
Re: Do you like Forumotion?
I didn't say you couldnt do that, i was just saying you didn't have to make it so long. just saying.

Interesting how people seem to expect it though
Merlin333, I've read your post. And to be honest, I appreciate your concerns, and whats more, the time you've spent writing it.
See, most people, they just say it blatently, as if they're holding some sort of hollowness and attack with it. Instead, you've chosen to explain, develop and propose.
To continue on the not so distant metaphor of the customer service... Imagine a rather big generalist store. What can a person from the computer zone do if someone comes asking for a dishwasher?
We have organized the support sections in order to simplify it's navigation as much as possible.
All, and I do insist on "all", our rules have been written in that spirit: simplifying the navigation here. A non explicit title, for instance, doesn't allow other members to find the topic (either manually or via the Search feature).
As for myself, I love and hate forumotion. I think that's what happens when you "work" at the same place for over 2 years
Oh, before I forget

Hey I resemble that remark!
But on a serious note. I have viewed and read many other webiste hosts and many of them although do not have the features that forumotion has, they do have the technician support constantly.
My biggest problem with Forumotion is that. Far too many tech related questions have gone unsolved. The suggestions forums is a farse, meaning it is just there to pacify the members to get there hopes up that there idea will be approved.
If you really think about it we as a community were lied to when we had that last big vote and the theme selector won. It was supposed to get serious consideration to be implemented. But alas nothing.
But how many admin panels have we had to make it more user friendly? How many new tutorials had to be written because of these new admin panels? I say leave the admin panel alone. You will never get it as user friendly as you want we will always have questions on "wheres this" "how to do this".
What will make forumotion be the best host would be:
1) more informative staff that knows about help in certain areas.
2) Technician appearance and updates.
3) Technicians actually responding to suggestions. The lame ass excuse they dont speak English etc has been worn out. When Forumotion/Editboard branched out to other countries they should have hired the staff needed to reach prospective customers in those countries.
I do have to agree with what Merlin said above in parts. But, what gets me heated is new members not doing a search for answers to questions, and just posting a topic so that others would do the work for them. Just this morning I answered 4 topics that could have been answered if the OP had did a search. If it were me, I would just lock the topic and tell the OP to do a search if I know the answer can be found.
Forumotion has grown since I have been here but in the last few months it has really taken some steps back. The Godfather has been here a lot latley and that is goo. But more is needed

Re: Do you like Forumotion?
And proud to be
Kilsek,
I hear you, trust me I do
On the french version, there's a section for "old staff", and somehow I'm in it. Anyways, I keep going there regularly to scream out about the suggestions, and the chronic absence of techie (or techie-related) response. I even balled out The Godfather to make sure he'd be here alot during Typlo's absence.
(Yes, that means he'll go away again after )
I can't do anything but agree on the JOKE that is the suggestions forum either
This Big Vote happened when I was moderator, and that was a long, long time ago. That speaks for itself...
For the rest, I dare think that my staff is more than competent, and that we try our best everyday to provide quality, free service

Re: Do you like Forumotion?
and you are doing a great job at it!
This forum service is better because of its staff members. On other support forums high-ranking staff members just stay and post in all the staff sections and only come out to yell at someone or ban someone else. And in those forums the regular members don't know a thing about making forums. Here all the staff are friendly and all the members are looking to help out in every way that they can.
On the suggestions side. It is mostly filling with features that other forum providers have and that people want us to have. Sure that they would be fine. But no single one is getting more than 25 yes votes so nothing will happen.
I think that the techs not being here is the worst. When a topic gets moved to the Tech area. All the members think that the techs are going to come to their rescue even tho none of the pervious tech topics have been answered by a tech.
Don't despair yet Caihlem!
