Question about image-host Empty Question about image-host

Post by kirk October 20th 2008, 11:35 pm

i'm not sure ware to post this. but it is of some importance concerning forums. (possibly)

i was just helping someone on the other problems board and just realized that a number of imagehost now have porn adds when they never did b/f

so what i'm getting at. if you have an image for a click able thumb posted on your forum and it is in no way shape or form a pornographic pic. but when you click the pic
it leads to porn add at the top of the image host page. then what?
let me explain in more details

imagevenue.com. one of the biggest free image host around and now have pornographic adds when you click on the pic. now we can not be held responsible for what an image host may have on there page. it's not just imagevenue either. imagebam imagethrust
multipics tiny pic imageshake largeimage host. these are all free image host that now have porn adds and never did b/f

so what's the deal with this. I'll be damned if there's an image of a family photo that someone may have posted on my forum. then it leads to the image and the host with porn adds now, someone complains saying that i have links that lead to porn..

i have no control over what kind of adds that any given image host might now allow.
as long as the image or images being posted on my forum or not porn or break TOS then i dont see how we could be held responsible
(if we are? i dont know that's why i'm asking)

so what is the policies on this. and what? we will now have to ban all image host unless you have a photobucket.. this is not wright. and how are they getting away with it.

as free forums we are not allowed to have anything pornographic. so why are free image host allowed to get away with it.?

i really did not know ware to post this. but if i have to move it to a proper board just let me know there is no ware for questions here?
thanks

You do not control the ads so i believe you are under no wrong doing, however, can i suggest changing image hosts (Photobucket, tinypic, servmig, etc)

Timmy

tiny pic's is now doing it too. this is messed up. these were are all mostly family friendly image host that are now doing it.(not anymore) as if there is not enough porn on the web.

what really makes me mad is b/c we can lose our forums in a heart beat for members posting things such as porn if we do not catch it in time.
but now it seems to be everywhere and nothing seems to be done about it.

so ware are online guardian for this.. they dont care. they just mess with free forums blogs and websites wright.. that's a crock

well i'm going around and uploading stuff to diff host now.
some host have the option to ware if it was marked as uploading adult content, then that's the only way you would get an add. imagevenue has that. and i marked one as adult and one as not. well they both came up with the same porn adds.

as far as tiny pic i think i got mixed up with another.

but i mean i have an art gallerie and funny pictures board on my forum and everything is imagevenue and imagebam.. i am not removing them your talking over a 1000 post not.

but i will put in place certain image host that will no longer be allowed.
I'll see if i can come up with a list of the good ones and the bad ones for everyone just to be safe.. but yea like Timmy said. we technically can not be held responsible. but i will not allow any host that do this b/c my one forum is for all ages and family friendly..

thanks Smile

I used to use servimg, but their servers are always down and sometimes the images can't be displayed, so I use tinypic.

Personally, I recommend photobucket. I hava an account since September 2004 and I can count server downtimes on my fingers, their servers are very stable. I use it for anything who's not related to my website's design or to my ressources. So I store screenshots, avatars, sigs, FM theme pics for theme testing, and images made for GFX requests. You have a 1 GB storage space and a 10GB monthly bandwidth which is largely enough if you store only images (you can also host your personal videos and Flash anims).

They are fine if you are not using them for skins. they re size the backgrounds of skins so useless for that. I use photobucket for pictures and signatures etc.

well i mean that the images seem to be delete, removed or just down alot after like a month.

as far as photobucket i use that for everthing when creating forum stuff. i never had a problem with skins either. but unless you pay for a premiuim account the you only get a 100o pics per account.

so useing them for just forum stuff your createing in can take a lil wile befor filled up. but if you doing everday pic's all the time of what ever then it will fill fast.
i still have three accounts.. but theres only about 300 pic's in each one for now.

large imagehost seems to be ok.
i had it on the list origanly but mixed it up also.
i like this b/c it's fast you can do 20 at a time, resize and create
a code for how many images you want in a row and lines.
here the link. oh plus you can crate an account also. but is still free without one:)
