Need Help For Modules

I'm a new to modules & I don't know how to use them, create them. On my forum's admin panel. I found the tabs "Module" & "Misc" but I couldn't find any option there to add or create modules. I'm using phpBB2 (subsilver). So please anyone there to help me. Please provide step-by-step help. Also tell me what does module stand for? That is I want complete knowledge of it & this may also help other newbies.

I want to make my own home page for my forum so I created my own homepage using FrontPage & CSS. I tried the following:
I copied my HTML code from FrontPage & pasted in Admin Panel>Module>HTML Pages managements>Create New HTML Page...it works but not completely.. beacuse I don't know how to use CSS's (I used in FrontPage HTML code) on my forum.?

what is the difference between pphBB1,phBB2 & phBB3.. & which is better & why?
Please help me..
