accidental ban?? Empty accidental ban??

Post by sheree November 18th 2008, 12:00 am

Quick Question,

I have accidently banned and deleted a member from my site. She is now trying to re-register but it wont let her. I have gone into unban an IP address and its showing that the IP address is no longer banned, however once she tries to set up a new username it still wont let her and her IP address comes up as banned again

What have I done wrong and how do I fix it???

Ok what you need to do first of all is to re sync the forum

1. Navigate to:

Admin Panel\General\Configuration

2. Scroll to the bottom and check "Resynchronize your forum :" before pressing "Save"

3. Refresh your forum

4. Then try to remove the banned IP and any other bans from the forum

5. Navigate to

Admin Panel\Usergroups\Special users

If their name appears as "Banned" then you may need to try and create a separate account and change all the details over to that users details

Regards

Not a problem Smile

The best way is simply to close and re open your browser Smile

Is the person still banned?

control and F5 to refresh. Also you should make sure she clears her cookies and temporary internet files as although you have reset your forum, her computer may still try to tell her she is banned. I have experienced that before myself Wink

When she has cleared her cookies and temp files, i forgot to say that if she has your site bookmarked, she should not use this to go to your site. Get her to type the full address in the browser bar. Smile

The strange thing is, My screens in the admin panal say there are NO BANNED USERS, yet everytime she tries to register, her IP address will then be displayed as banned, even though I have unbanned it??

it sounds like your forum isnt updating properly. It will, but is taking its time. It shouldnt do that though and as there are no other solutions to be offered i will move to in need of a tech.

Post by Ape November 18th 2008, 9:24 pm

ok try this i think it may help you a little bit it worked for me.

go to your users groups and then go down to your ban list
get your banned ip address and re enter it in the site and save.

now you need to go to Generalthen Configuration
scroll down and your see Resynchronize your forum :
click that and then save.
Now your site is Resynchronize'd

then go in to the ban list and remove it again then Resynchronize your site again then you will need to press ctrl f5 and then get them to try again.

this should then let him/her in again
please let me know if this worked Very Happy

Is she still useing the same email address as before?
You may have banned the email address, also check that u havnt done an IP range ban
EG: 111.222.11.9* the * makes the ban a range ban.

Hello,
someone cannot be 'accidentally banned' from the chatbox, because you have to go into the administration panel to ban / unban a user for it to take full affect.

uh it's been doing this to alot of people over the months now.
it's the forum called twlightfanrpg. I asked the admins to look into this and they told me and a few other people from the site who this happened to said its the chatbox, it apperently has been banning people from it due to something wrong with the chatbox, they also told me that my screen name there was not on the list of people who were banned from the chat box and that they didnt ban me ,that it was the chat box's techincal fault and what i stated above.

Freetobandito, I think that you should have contacted the person that owns the forum instead of just posting the link on here and spreading rumours about it. I think you should have gotten permision to ask help, have you gotten permision.
I think not.
So, before you should post about another forum, unless you are the forum owner, do not go asking for help unless you are. If the forum owner wants help they would have come here on their own.

I had my old forums banned because someone hacked/scammed my site, and make it into a hacking site while I was gone for vacation.

900 active members, and unlimited posts... but now I can't get it back.

Some things you need to get over it in life...

Okay, simple solution, it WILL delete ANY changes since the day before you banned this young lady, but it will certainly unban her. Click This and click all of the options you want, then reset site. Happy yay yay she has her old account with her old password.
