Calender event without a topic?

How is it that you add a calender event without haveing to make a topic. I looked in FAQ but didn't see it in that Calender topic.

admin panel calender management then where it says pick a catagory for these to go into, select the blank at the top

i havent tested this but if it dosent work make a hidden topic and set them to go there
