1. Upload your banner to tinypic
2. Go to Administration Panel
3. Display tab
4. Pics Managent
5- Advanced mode
6. Under "Forum main logo" put a link of your banner, given by tinypic
7. Save

No it doesnt need to be tinypic, choose your own pic host.

3. Define "cool". Some people find things cool, others dont. Look around at other people`s portals to check what you like.
