Special Rights Empty Special Rights

Post by 4thGearPinned April 4th 2009, 02:08

Hi
Can someone help i'm not 100% sure i have set up a moderator on my forum.

I have created a new catergory and wanted to set up one of my members as a moderator for that catergory.

Can you please guide me through the settings to do this .

I only want him to have moderator rights for this category only.

after my attempt to set up a moderator when i click on that category it still says moderators none this makes me think i have done it wrong.

Also what does it mean when it says Open Group , Closed Group.

When i click on my user name it says Admin, But when i click on the guy i wanted to set up as a moderator it still says newbie not moderator, is this because he is only a mod for 1 category or have i set it up wrong.

Sorry for all the questions but i am new at this and really want to set everything up sweet as i pride myself on my forum.

really appreciate any help, if possible could you answer the questions as simple as you can as i get confused easily.

Thanks

Gav

If you haven't successfully added him to the mod group read=> THIS

To make him a mod on only one section (forum)
in the admin panel >users and groups>click on his name
click on the permissions tab.(right)
You will see a list of all the forums.
on the right is a checkbox. check "is moderator" for the forum you want him to mod.

now to get rid of the newbie rank
scroll back up to the top of his profile> click the modify tab (left)
scroll all the way down to the bottom of his profile and select rank: moderator

The diff. between open and closed group
"# Open: Anyone can ask to join this group and the moderator will approve or deny applications.
# Closed: Anyone can view this group, but they cannot request join it. Only the group moderator or administrator can add or remove members."

Carryn Thanks for the reply, i have gone through what you said and checked the box "is Moderator" in the box to the left of that it now says Allowed Access greyed out with a tick in it, all the others say read write special messages in different coloured text.

i have tried to change his rank but when i click on the drop down box the only option is Admin.

can you help please. i'm sure i have done something wrong, its frustrating as i want to understand what it all means.

Thanks for your help appreciate it.

"The check box "allow access" displays for a forum only if only at least one of it's permissions is defined to group via the forums permission control" (hover the ? above where you see allowed access for that msg)
...so to change anything regarding that you would have to go in to forum permission control

As for the rank.
Go to users and groups >rank admin.
and create new rank = moderator etc.
once you do that you should see the new rank available in the drop down box.

if it doesn't show after you've done that...IDK what to tell you.

hehe. if a member doesn't want his website to show, maybe they shouldn't put it in their profile info.
Anyways in Users>groups>profiles>contact tab
Click on modify for the website field>
There is an option to display either in profile or messages. untick both.

Special Rights Empty duplicate members

Post by 4thGearPinned April 5th 2009, 00:10

is there any way to tell or prevent people from making themselves members more than once,

its just that i run competitions on my forum i suddenly loads of members with quite similar names have come on.

if this is the case it will give them an advantage to win.

is there any way to tell if someone makes more than one membership or a way of stopping this.

thanks
