I am not a mod but I have heard if this is removed your site can be shut down so no sorry it cant be removed.

That annoys me too,but you have to work with it.
It can't be removed.
But,I think you can get a skin that blends in with the link color,but you have to edit link colors,ect.

Admin panel>Display>Pictures and Colors>Colors>Edit the colors from there.
