Solved Anti-Spider Mode Questions!

Post by readyman May 30th 2009, 12:44 am

Okay, first off, I am not real new to the whole admin thing, but I am confused a little here.

In AdminCP>General>Security, there is a tab called "Anti-Spider Mode"...

1 - Does this stop google search spiders form branching off and sniffing my forums?

2 - Is this more of a protection feature to keep the emails of my users safe?

3 - What exactly does this feature do?

4 - Why cant I disable it to make it in-active?

5 - Do I want to make it inactive, or is it better for my forum to have it active?

Here is the picture of where I mean so there is no uncertanties of what and where I mean...

Hello,

This is something that I have discussed with the moderator Kirk, several times to help me clarify what it means, so I know what im talking about.

A spider can be both good and bad, for lots of information please read the first 4 stickies of this board:

1) No, it does not stop Google from visiting your forum, as he is a Bot.
2) This is not protection for yourself or ur users email address' as u can not gain that information without admin panel access, or the user telling u it.
3) The feature protects ur site from potentially dangerous spiders
4)You cannot deactivate it because it is set by the forumotion technicians, for optimization purposes'
5)Leave it active, even though u cant deactivate it.
