category not showing

I just started a forum and i added the categories and the forums but when you go on the forum there is only one category called forum and all the forums are below it (they have not been divided into sections?)

Also on the forum you cannot see the portal, home, messages etc sample buttons, you have to highlight to see it.

Can anyone assist me on these matters?

I think you need to change your forum hierarchy.

Admin CP > Display > Structure & Heirarchy...
Change it there.

Here is how you can separate the category:

When creating a new category make sure you have selected the category in the "Choose the kind of forum you want : " option (Thats the first option)

To verify that you have created properly check like this:

Go to ACP -> General -> Forum -> Categories and forums

You can see all the forums you created, BLUE bubble box indicates that it is a category and Green bubble box shows that it is a forum....

If you don't see the blue box then create a new category as mentioned above

If you have done that!!! your category must be separated or else as ankilien said change the structure and heirachy (but I don't think that will be the prob)

and regrading the second question....... I think its because of the theme you choose or if you have used your own buttons (nav bar) then the color of the button and theme are synchonizing to each other i guess

can you give us your forum link or screen shot of the problem
