They are to show how active your forum is. Also, they give you a rank in the forums directory. After a certain amount, Forumotion may provide you with a free personalized domain name.

It is also used to judge how much you are to pay for the ads removal I think.

I'm sure GeekPolice has enough activity points. Smile

But, I'm not sure its for all forums. You may need to have a forum that is sort of "unique" in a way... or there aren't many of those out there.
