Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
Hello
I have been searching for quite some time for information since I had to renew my forum and package which I have been paying out of my own pocket and was looking for information on setting up a donation button. However most of the information is old. I do not have the option to set the donate link on the forum. AP - Misc - Credit Management. Upon my searching I now have more questions.
What can we do with the Activity Points?
What does donating points to another member do? I read one post that said points can be donated for credits. I tested this on myself as the Admin donating to GuardianAngel (my username on my forum) and it shows 157355 points. Where is that figure coming from and what exactly does it mean? How do those go to credits?
How can I add a donate button via Paypal?
I do not want to continue paying for costs out of my own pocket each year which I have to purchase in USD from Canadian which is even more costly. I would like those who wish to contribute to make it simple.
Please provide up to date links to my question where I can read the details in full.
Thank you.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
The donation option was removed awhile ago. You can get the link form the AP for which ever payment you want and create a donate button on your forum.
The question about donating points is not related to credits. It is related to the reputation system. Points members get on the forum has no value. You can use them for whatever you want.

Where exactly can I get the link from the AP??
What exactly can the points be used for?
What is the benefit of giving points to someone else?

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
Thank you for the links. I have the point system in place already.
What does donating points do for the member? What good is it to donate points to someone else?

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
The point system is not really something that has a value. You can create a value for whatever you want. You can say when a member has 100 points they are a VIP member or some other user group. You can use the points as a way to pay in a point shop.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
A prime example and quite common I see around is people use the points members earn like currency for the site and they spend those points on whatever is available in a shop created by the founder. Even some members make their own shops and have others use points to spend and make more. It basically makes an economy for your site if you wish.

Thank you for the responses.
I obtained a link from PayPal and used the code posted in the link above by @SLGray created by @Roger123. I also tried the HTML code from PayPal which shows the standard yellow donate button. This is in preview mode.

When I add the code and preview it, I can see the button and can test it out by choosing it and it takes me to PayPal. However when I submit it, it's not showing on the forum.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
Do you mean the url of my forum?
http://www.bachandbachettefans.net/forum
I would prefer it to be top right of the page under the search button.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
Yes. I created a PayPal account and got the links I posted upthread from PayPal. One is HTML and the other is a link as noted in my post.
When I add either one of those codes, and preview it, I can see it, but when I submit it, it doesn't appear on the forum.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
You can exactly add the code to the homepage message, in an announcement, in a widget, etc.

Re: Donating Points Activity Points Donate Button
I would personally add the code directly to the index_body template. Widgets and the homepage message thing overcomplicates it for me. Either case, if you are adding this code to a html page, post that page's link here so we can take a look.

The html code from Paypal - I would like the button to appear top right next to "view new posts" or under the "search" bar.
- Code:
<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="_top">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick" />
<input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="7322F2YNT2Y5U" />

<img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_CA/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1" />
</form>
