group permissions explaination! Empty group permissions explaination!

well i want to know that when you setup group permissions, there comes two check/uncheck columns, Allowed Access and Is Moderator in front of all the forums,
so what exactly both means? i know it sounds pretty stupid but i really dont know what allowed access will do or is mod if i check it for a group.
can anyone please explain to me in easiest possible way, because i am about to set permissions for my groups.
please dont say its stupid Very Happy
