Is there a way to add other events to the calendar? as admin or by the users themselves????????? Neutral

Click Calendar in the navigation and it will bring you to a screen thats all calender click the little image next to the day (add event)

there is no add event...is it in only certain templates?

Go to your Admin Panel/ under modules

On the left there is
Portal & Calendar there hit calendar
in my calendar setting I have this

Activate the topic calendar
Yes

Set the first day of the week
Sunday

Title length showed in the boxes of the calendar
20
Text lenght showed in the description box
200
Show the name of the forum under the title of the subject, in the agenda
Yes

Select the forum associated with your events.
