Solved Avatar

Post by Gadz February 25th 2010, 12:43 pm

I have tried everything to change my avatar on the message board I belong to. It keeps telling me

The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.

How can this be fixed?

TIA!!

I imagine that I would have to be the admin of the message board, correct?
I'm not, I'm a member of that message board/forum.
I've asked the admin and they said there is nothing they can do, that it must be a site problem.
It is frustrating. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you!

Will it let you delete the existing one?

There are four different ways of adding avatars to your profile, am I correct in assuming that you are trying to used a Fourumotion one already loaded on the forum?

No, it won't let me delete the existing one.

I was trying to upload it from a file on my computer.

I was able to put the photo in my gallery.

I tried to add it from the gallery. That didn't work either.

Can I just clarify this is a Forumotion forum & you added the avatar yourself?

Also how many pixels is the avatar and what file type is it?

Yes, it is a Forumotion forum, I wouldn't post here if it wasn't.

The avatar is 96 pixels.

It is a JPEG.

Yes, I added it to my gallery.

However, it will not let me load it from the gallery or from a link to a site or from my computer. It won't even open up my gallery when I am trying to load from there. If I go out of avatar and open up my gallery, it let's me do that.

It will not let me delete my avatar at all.

I only came here because I am not getting any help from the admin of the Forum/Board. I have asked for weeks -- seriously -- weeks. And they say it must be a site problem and they can do nothing. This makes no sense to me.

Thanks!

Not only do I not have this problem on my forum, but I have not seen anyone else post with something like this. The administrator of your forum can choose various options, such as not to let people have gallery avatars etc etc. I am wondering if this is something he/she has done unwittingly or not.

It is not a site problem & if your administrator can't solve it, then in my opinion, they should be on here themselves asking for help. If it not something to do with the permissions he has set, then it can only be to do with the avatar itself. This however does not explain why you cannot delete the existing one.

Try deleting the avatar you no longer want, press save, log off the forum & then clear your cache, see if that works. Perhaps you want to post your avatar on here, or send it to me in a pm & I can try it on my forum? Smile

Hmmm.........................it let me load my avatar on here!

I did try to delete the avatar on the forum/board I belong to. It will not delte it. Also, I tried logging off (several times I did this) and clearing the cache and rebooting computer, etc. None of it worked.

However, now that I see that I can put my avatar on here................I'm wondering if it is my browser. I am going to try logging onto my forum through another browser and see what happens. Will let you know.

Thanks!

Lol like it. Wink We only allow avatars 100 x 80 on our forum, so we wouldn't have one so big. Check out what the permissions have been set to on your forum.

I use chrome all the time & never have a problem, my O/H uses FF & most of our members use IE so I would be surprised if it is browser thing.

SUCCESS!!!

So, I tried using Internet Explorer. I logged off and opened IE and logged back in and voila!! It worked!!

I only thought about it after reading Kalliopi's post. I noticed I was using IE and tried it. I've been using AOL all along and didn't even think about it. I was using a different computer this morning when posting.

Whoo hoo!! This is a good thing to remember in future when things don't work quite right. Mental note to self -- don't use AOL when accessing features on the Forum!

Thank you for all your help!!! :wouhou: :wouhou: :wouhou: :wouhou:

Have a great week! (Monday, Monday -- work, work, work -- bleah!! LOL)
