making a secret forum category?

i know in some other forumotion sites i've been to there have been forums on the forum that are only visible to certain members that are a certain rank/part of a certain group.
how do i do this?

Hello,

This is done by grouping (auto or manual) and forum permissions.

You set a group up (this can be done by posts, min. of 12 post for auto-group) in the groups administration
Admin panel >> Users & Groups ( Tab ) >> Groups administrations > Add new.
add the users & settings here
Note: You can have the group as "hidden" so no-one knows about the group/forum

Now, let's make the hidden "secret" forum
Admin panel >> General ( Tab ) > Categories & Forums > Add new ( Or edit the permissions of a current one [X/Tick] and disallow everyone but the wanted group/s to see the room.
Note: If you ONLY want to keep guests from seeing this, then just disallow guests from viewing the room (remove the ticks from their lines) and allow everyone else.
Repeat as necessary.
