I would like to inset google adsense ads onto my forum, and I have searched this help forum, and they say to use widgets, but when I insert a widget into the forum widget edit thingy none of the widgets show up. I am using phpbb3 so i don't know if that effects it.

Does anyone know an easy way to do this?

You don't have to use a widget. You can use the homepage message area.
