Solved My Forum Has a Virus Alert ?

    Post by Autumn01 Wed 26 Jan 2011 - 18:14

    Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me.
Today when i tried to log onto my forum this is what popped up:

Danger: Surf-Shield has detected active threats on this page and has blocked access for your protection.
The page you are trying to access has been identified as a known exploit, phishing, or social engineering web site and therefore has been blocked for your safety. Without protection, such as that in the AVG Security Toolbar and AVG, your computer is at risk of being compromised, corrupted or having your identity stolen. Please follow one of the suggestions below to continue.

Do we have a virus on our forum and if so...how do we get rid of it?
We have been unjustly harassed by another forum for months now threatening us in emails with putting virus's on our forum, and hacking our forum to shut our forum down...etc...etc... All because they are jealous and spiteful. (I have saved the harassing/threatening emails if anyone would like to see them.)

And in the last few days another member from this other site registered at our forum and we didnt know it was them until after the fact....she went thru the forum leaving malicious posts, and links to the other forum.. and we banned her, blocked the IP and email addy etc... and deleted the posts yesterday.

This other site (which is also a forumotion site) will not stop this harassment, and they have been harassing us for months now, we are not bothering them, they are constantly harassing us....is it possible they did put a virus on my forum? And if so...how do we get rid of the virus, and how do we get this other site to stop this constant childish harassment?

Thank you for any help anyone can give me. Very Happy

    Hello.

Forumotion haven't got any virus in the forums. Maybe you have added any javascript in your widgets, or you had copy/past any code in a external forumotion page.

Try getting that codes, and check again Very Happy

    Good luck.

Thank you for your reply mpelmmc.

I dont mean it was a virus from forumotion.
I believe it may be a virus sent to my forum by a malicious site we have been harassed by, and also been threatened by them saying they would put viruses on our forum, and these people also have a site on forumotions themself. They have been harassing us and threatening us for months now.

I was hoping someone could tell me what to do to find out if they actually did put a virus on my forum and if so, how do i get rid of it?
(As i said before this is the message that pops up when anyone tries to log in our forum....i dont want my members, or myself getting a virus etc...because of this other site and their malicious intentions.)

Again, Here is the message that pops up:

Danger: Surf-Shield has detected active threats on this page and has blocked access for your protection.
The page you are trying to access has been identified as a known exploit, phishing, or social engineering web site and therefore has been blocked for your safety. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated....and any ideas to make this other site stop this harassment and leave us alone would be greatly appreciated, too.
    Thank you! Very Happy

    ]Hi Everone ,

Im Faerielass and Im an Admin with Autumn,

I dont want to appear as if we are repetitive but we have a serious problem on our site..

I would not come here lightly to complain, Ive always felt the way through is to ignore people who harass, but yesterday it got completely out of hand and it has become so that we are now unable to accept new members as we cannot be sure they are not from the other site thats been causing the problems .

We have all the relavent e mails and posts that were sent and left on the forum, it has gone beyond petty , this has become very personal and our characters have been assassinated over and over ..

We are a relatively new site and all we want is to be left alone , but again I reiterate that its no longer possible to Ignore what is happening ..

We would appreciate any help at this stage and we would be very grateful for any help offered .

Thank You for taking the time to read this Post ..

    Faerielass

    Hi,

Do you remember adding any new scripts in the last week at all?
Custom widgets, homepage message, template edits, or scrolling announcements?

    Hi Darren1,
Thank you for the reply. Very Happy

No, we didnt add anything like that to our site this week at all.
The only thing that happened was someone from the other site thats been harassing us registered on our forum.. and we didnt know it was them until after the fact...they posted very malicious things, and left posts for links to that other site..we banned that person yesterday, and deleted their posts, and deleted the links...and today I have that virus message that pops up... and i dont know how to check to see if they put a virus on our forum, or what has happened, and i dont know how to get rid of it.

We have been dealing with harassment from that site for months now...and they just wont stop, and they refuse to leave us alone.
I dont know if that virus pop up thing is something they have done (they have threatened us with that...and threatened hacking into our forum for months now) or maybe its something else? I really dont know at this point.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Very Happy
    Thank you for your time,
    Autumn

Not an issue, im here to help Smile
(even though sometimes I like to hide Razz )

Could I get the URL of your forum as to see this myself - It could be a false positive, (I read that) you use AVG, which occasionally show false positive (where their virus definitions say it's a virus, but it's not a virus), which I'm thinking it is because of your last attack by the ....... idiot's over at the other forum.
Feel free to report them via: https://www.forumotion.com/en/litigation/

I must admit, great forum topic loove

As I thought, it's a false positive, as I'm running Avast 5.1 Free Edition - It allowed me to enter the site no issues, and I've been doing some roaming as well.
I also notice that your online now, are u looking the virus notification, or are you actually on the board?

Ive done a few online checks, including AVG Site checker, and it appears to come up clean, could we get a screenshot of the message please?

    Hi Darren,
Thank you for the compliment about our forum. Very Happy

I just went to do that screen shot you asked for.. and signed out of the forum so the notice would pop back up as i "X'ed it out when i signed on... and when i logged back in the virus notice was gone...nothing popped back up this time.
The warning notice has been popping up all day, and now all of a sudden it has gone?
    Very odd.

I have no idea what is going on with that.. but now its gone...but i truly thank you for all your time and your help, my friend.

And thank you for giving us the litigations link.
You have been most helpful, and i truly appreciate it. Very Happy
    Sincerely,
    Autumn
