How do i setup new members to be approved first before entering forums

How do i set up my forums where a new member has to be approved before being allowed to read or veiw my forums cos i dont really want any strangers to be in it and im not sure if thats how its setup to start with.

I also would like to know how to set up the new member as just a member and not a moderator or admin staff

1. Go to Admin (Advanced) - Users and Groups - Users Options
2. Set "New Accounts Activation" to Admin
3. You're done! Now you have to approve new members!

Members shouldn't be setting as mod or admin unless you make them so.

do you know how to do the second part of my post too? The only options i seem to have is either admin or moderator or a blankspace and im not sure if i leave the space blank if it will automatically make the new member, just a "member"

If they are not set as admin or mod, they will be neither. You could aslo make a new auto-subscribe group for normal members or noobies or both. ask if you need help on this.

Okay. Steps to auto-subscribe to groups:

1. Go to Admin (Advanced) - Users and Groups - Group Administration
2. Create a new group by clicking "Create new group"
3. Set all the settings as you like, and set the last, group auto-subscribe, to "Yes"
4. Choose a post amount at which the member will subscribe.
5. Click "Save." You're done!

With the auto-sub thing i've set up, does that mean that new members will be automatically assigned as a "member" upon approval unless i otherwise change it?

Yes, they will be automatically added to the auto-join group unless they haven't reached the post requirement you've put in the settings.
