Best Of Forumotion 2011: Round 2

First topic message reminder :

You voted in your hundreds.

It's come down to less than 20.

Forums that did not meat the criteria - quite a few (Seriously, it was in the first post...) were removed. Also, any forums which our judges - Darren1, Base and myself, felt were not up to scratch or were discussing something ridiculous, dicks for example were removed...

This round requires voting, the top 5 forums from the public vote shall go forward and then will be put before us.

Darren wants to announce the prizes because he is sentimental like that.

This is the only warning you are getting about this so listen carefully. If you vote using two different account when you are the same person you will;

• Get your forum Disqualified from the competition - this is for members of forums too - not just staff
  
• Face disciplinary action on this forum, namely warnings or bans.
  
• If you are a member, probably be hated and get banned from the forum you voted twice for.

I'm not really into the self promoting on here - but I do want to say that Babies & All is much much more than a 'discussion forum' we have real life events, regular meets involving lots of people from all over the UK and we have this Saturday our Big Night Out, where a big group is staying in Birmingham to have a party night! I really do think our forum shows a real community that not only has an online relationship, but also it has gone much further than that and resulted in many many real life friendships!

It is a best forum contest indeed - but WHAT determines how a forum becomes good?!
A forum, being 'a public facility to meet for open discussion', is obviously for discussion - so why does the design become so important? I agree that an ugly irrelevant looking forum will not attract people to join, but also a forum with little of interest will do the same ... so there has to be a balance between design and interest.
You guys are all way too focused on how your forum looks - you should be focusing more on how your forum is performing - btw thousands of members and low posts does not really show good performance!

OK, I think what's happened here is that people are being obsessed with how sexy our forum looks and then instantly regard us as shallow 13 year olds. That's not true. I'm actually 14.
Also you haven't joined and seen what's on the inside. Wayyyyy too many people voting here see a site that is lacking in the looks so they decide to check out the inner works. But when they see good outside looks, they stop there and post "You shallow gits" and leave.
I can also explain the reason why we have a poor Member to post ratio in two ways.
One, the more complex way.
There is (in the international RMXP community comprising of many different independant forums) a battle of which RMXP battle system is the best. What happens is, XAS (the one we mostly support) is the underdog, but many people still want it. So they get linked to us for help, info and resources. But you need to join to get that stuff so most just join, get their stuff, wash their hands and leave. This results in out poor User to post ratio.
Explaination 2, we have stuff people want. They can only get it by joining. Then they leave. We are satisfied that we have helped another lost soul.

Don't take what I said personally! It was a general observation.

Seriously guys...chill and stop fighting for your forums so much - if they are good enough to get through then they will without all your bickering and point scoring!

I didn't! I didn't! It was a general explaination to anyone who wanted to use the "You guys are just looks" arguement.

No worries ma'am, it's all in the spirit of the competition.
