    Solved Forum Software

Post by jroriginal September 20th 2011, 12:34 am

I know that Forumotion uses the phpBB engine or at least a modified version of it. My question is therefore why don't we have options like a Moderator Control Panel or the warning system of the default phpBB build?

Obviously I would like to add I love FM and am not trying to sound incredibly ungrateful, I'm just curious, that's all. Oh and I'm pretty new to all the forum software technology. Wink

Any answers would be appreciated. Very Happy

Yes, there is a moderator panel for moderating forums, yes you can improve it but not really that drastically.

a "proper warning system" is yet to be implemented if it will be, lol

Yes but nowhere near as detailed as the one in the latest phpBB 3 release. Wink

This is more of question for the company then anyone else. It could be that they didn't want to add it or they were going to do something else that was better then what other forum software has.

It's just strange really, you can see the default here: http://www.phpbb.com/demo/?sid=f27554d1fea98f5b39b00fe2e5aa1f40.

I just wonder why they chose not to include those things?

There could be many answers... The forumotion Team chose to buy the cheaper forum software which doesnt include those, or they have chosen that Without them is better, or there may be a bug that burns your PC into a ton of ashes.... No real answer except for the owners

The phpBB software is free and open source and it definitely doesn't ruin your computer, this forum is using it. Wink I wonder why they don't update the version?

The only answer you'll be able to get is that there are many reasons unknown to us as to why Forumotion doesn't implement this feature. For the time being, we shall just have to sit tight and wait and see if there are any changes.

It would be nice for an official answer though. Wink

And the current version if fine, you can check it out yourself with the link I posted plus other hosts use the latest version.

Forumotion using a custom forum software. They might of removed it due to the fact it wasn't working with their own code. I'm afraid having Godfather answer this won't be possible. T_T

The server software and admin control panel on forumotion boards are modified versions from phpBB2, not phpBB3. They are ancient and buggy, and it's why we aren't going to see much in the way of future enhancements unless they are upgraded to something written in this century.

    lol!
Dion take a chill pill,Sometimes i dont know if you are for us or against us.. lol Razz
There is nothing wrong with phpbb2. yeah it's old, but so what some of the best things made are older.

When phpbb offer and or allow forumotion to upgrade to phpbb latest editions then and only then will forumotion be able to do so. But i think you would see a phpbb4 come out from phpbb before they allow and offered it to forumotion.

Since the question was answered i will now mark and lock the thread.
