By doing this does this remove the myforum.forummotion.com
and change it to my domain i already own

or does it simply just forward the forummotion domain to the domain i own?

It won't show the forumotion URL. Those who have the older URL of forumotion, when entered int he address bar will redirect to your custom domain.
