Would you like to have an E-mail alert at least a day prior to maintenance, so you canbetter inform your forum members?
Maintenance e-mail alert
Would it be possible to send out an e-mail to Forum creators of the approximate time(S) that there will be maintenance performed?
There was a pretty spirited discussion going on @ my place, when it all went Poof..

Would be cool I'd appreciate that. BUT it would also be best helpful if the alert happened prior to the day that the changes were being made too. I mean, I check in here nearly every day, but to let my members know to avoid discussions on a particular day around a certain time would be the optimum deal.

Add a poll please in the next 24 hours or it will be locked. The maintenance page doesn't help you at least?

1) I'll add a poll now,
2) Sure, I get notified the day OF the event. Not much of a help in notifying my forum members to try to avoid discussions the day OF the maintenance.
Many discussions were dashed a bit today. NP I mean I completely understand server work, and I've seen a marked improvement in my forum speed, But, .....

It sends you emails when they update their news & updates. It send it to u in the same day. Its NOT Possible to be notified in advance UNLESS your staff. That Link I gave you is as good as it's gonna get

You are making my point in RE: to the purpose of this thread, and related poll.

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
I voted yes. I would prefer direct communication from Forumotion, via email, warning of updates/possible downtime.
I wouldn't necessarily be aware of any maintenance until it happened - even if they posted in the announcements/update section - as I don't always visit the support forum
So an email would be most appreciated.

My point exactly.
A preemptive e-mail, ESPECIALLY for the Founders of Forums through here, who have purchased domains, would be super helpful.

Myself, I just hope that the results of the poll, should it be in favor of the e-mail alerts, is taken by Forumotion favorably.
I love the service...the hosting...but in able to ensure that we all can have our respective Forums run with as little confusion to our memberships, will in reality, help Forumotion in the long run.

There's a maintenance page? Where?
Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
good suggestion. I voted yes, everybody can be ready for maintenance when it is enabled but some actually don't look at their e-mails

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
This is pointless
Why add a maintenance email sent out to admins only?
And it would be for aprox 10 mins per day - 2 hr notification, emails everyday THIS WOULD BE CALLED SPAM!
In yesterdays case, HOW can you give notification if there is no ability to know before hand about server problems - You can't!
The idea is good, but in practicality, it aint possible, as I explained above !

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
Where servers are being changed as of now notification would have been good, granted unintentional downtime can not be predicted but on occassions like this , advanced warning is polite.

WTF are you on about? My suggestion is to send an e-mail alert to founders of Forums HOSTED by Forumotion...PRIOR to maintenance of the type we're seeing NOW.
I must say, I have been trying to figure out what service I will ultimately settle with for the final system to deal with my project, and I'm starting to lean towards VBulletin now. IDK how well versed YOU are in these types of matters, but this is actually kind of a slap in the face to people who have paid ANY money into this service.
To have the volume, and types of issues spring up, with NO prior notice, ISN'T very "User Friendly" to say the least. The types of actions listed in the "announcement" that was given on 10/2...the day OF the start of this mess, really involves more than a few "minor glitches". A notification at LEAST a day in advance would have been prudent.

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
I was going to write the same thing but you beat me to it.
A simpel option to get a email 24 (or more) houres in advance of the maintenance with time of beginning and predicted end.
It would not be much that have to be written, and only when it is a planned maintenance work and not a express rapair need (like a server cashing)
If it is optional then no user will loss anything to get this, and the onces that want this will win a great deel from this.
I have read what you have said about the links and RSS feed and they are great, but not worth much if you want to warn your user more than a few minuts in advance.

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
So, seeing the results so far of this poll, can we as Founders of Forums hosted by Forumotion, expect better warning come the next, or subsequent MAJOR server/maintenance issues?
TBH, I still am experiencing problems with "server errors", but I'll reserve my further comments on these to see what this coming week brings...it's Tuesday A.M for me now...

Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
And just to add, Friday isn't a very good day to perform server maintenance especially when the server staff don't work on weekends!
Re: Maintenance e-mail alert
I vote yes......
Its starting to become a big problem on my forum and now that im close to 1,000 members people dont want to deal with down sites when thay are in the middle of something.
I do pay money in to this server .domain/ad removal/storage and more...
its only fare that the consideration of us as your members be forth and give us a heads up so we can alert our members.
