Yes it is illegal since you don't have permission from the authors of the program/game/movie or whatever the torrent file contains.

Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
no its not as known theyll thank you as your abratising them (well i think)
Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
i would say no, because firstly downloading from torrent is illegal and secondly not having permission from the artist.
Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
well, it depends, doesnt it? downloading a torrent isnt illegal in general, the file/content that the torrent contains could probably be illegal. consider, you can share freeware, demos (for example gimp) etc. with a filesharing client as well...

Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
is it worth the risk of losing your forum though for breaking tos if someone reports you? If you are going to use any links to downloaded content i would suggest being very careful about it.
Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
i fully agree, i just asked because i wanted to know as explicit as
possible. uploading a torrent file (with legal content, of course -
gimp or game replays of my members) somewhere on fileden or whatever
and post this link, people can report for eternity, but im not breaking
the TOS, right?
its pretty hypothetical anyway, as there is no great need for this, but
well, its better to know how to react before actually someone posts
such download links.

Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
if the content of the link is fully legal and you have been given permission to then use that link to share with other people for downloading then i would think it would be fine to do so and wouldnt be breaking TOS.
Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
well, just warn user for illegal action
dont remove his forum instantly, who knows the user maybe worked the forum for a lot time!

if they have worked on it a long time they shouldnt break the TOS, if they do and they lose their forum, its something they agree to when clicking terms and conditions, thats their own fault. I believe forumotion will normally send an email to remove the illegal items anyways but if it is severely breaking TOS it will be removed instantly.

on rapidshare or torrents?
MC, it depends on the content (do you have a permission, license to download/offer them, content itself is against TOS) and on the content of the sites you are linking to.

Re: Torrent Links On Your Forum
About the e-books ,on e-bay there are several e-book dvd's that come with full re-seller rights.
These I think would be ok to post, but say for example the full bestsellers list these would break the TOS
The copyright laws are many and complicated.
Here's one of use to Forumotion members.
If you have anything you have created (data, pictures or themes) the day you finish them take a copy put it into an envelope (addressed to yourself) to your local post office and get them to stamp the package with the date stamp (when delivered do not open the package but store it away).
In law you are covered from the postmark on the package as having intellectual rights to your work.
With the torrent files it is not illegal to use torrent sites ,nor to download the torrents.
It only becomes illegal when you install and use copyrighted software obtained from them.
If the software is not copyrighted then there is no problem.
It may still be against Forumotion's TOS to post the links though.
Hope this helps a little
