help on personalized domain name error Empty help on personalized domain name error

Post by party Sat Feb 02 2008, 10:00

newbie here.

i have some questions.

1. for the personalized domain name, are cctl domains allowed? it was purchased outside forumotion.

2. to access my personalized domain, i use cpanel, and there is no dns management there. there is however a "subdomain redirect", where i already created a subdomain and i already redirected it to my existing forum here in forumotion. i have tried entering my personalized domain in the forum address, but i get an error, "the supplier domain name is not well configured".

any ideas? thanks.

it will be because it is just a sub domain redirect, with no change to name servers. This is the best you can do with a sub domain. Some domains allow you to cloak your normal address with the new one but forumotion only does this with domains bought with them.

yes it does and you can redirect it ONLY if the domain you purchase comes with a domain cp and offers redirection.

hello party,

if you are real domain owner then you can have that for forumotion also. It will not be redirect but it will true domain assoicated with your forum.

For this ask you domain registrar to set a cname you want your forum address to be pointing to your current forumotion address.

After this you have to change that in your forum's admin panel. Admin>>General>>Forum Address>>write your new address. Be ware do the last function after 24 to 48 hours after you tell to your domain registrar because it takes time to update.

hi zinex.

i've done the redirection on my real personalized domain's cpanel. it already indicates the redirection to my real forumotion board.

however, when i go to the administration panel of my board and enter my "real" personalized domain, it still gives the error: "The supplied domain name is not well configured".

any other steps to make this work?

thanks again.

it works now!

when i type in "http://forum.my_personalized domain" it redirects to "http://my_forum.forumotion.com".

but the address bar changes to "http://my_forum.forumotion.com" instead of showing my personalized domain.

is that how its supposed to be?

no party you see my post for that. By my settings your address will remail,
forum.yourdomain.com and when you will clikc on portal it will become forum.yourdomain.com/portal.htm. so there is no redirection.

My setting will make your domain attached to your forum.

This may help you.

hitesh have you actually done this? i ask because to my knowledge, C names are only assessible from the host you want to set the domain to pont too, same as name servers which you need.

zinex....hitesh was right.

hitesh...thanks for the tip. i requested my domain registrar to set the cname to my forumotion address. they did. i was able to enter my personalized domain in the admin panel. now it works great.

those who are having problems with their personalized domain should follow the tip above, from hitesh.
