Domain Empty Domain

Post by Azi February 21st 2013, 5:14 am

yes yes, so i've bought my own Domain(hostgator) externally and i want to use it as a CNAME for my current forumotion board, and before you waste your time; i read this, https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board and i don't have an option to edit the Host records or anything of the sort dealing with the management panel via HostGator;

Anyone ever worked with hostgator? all i see is http://img.chaosera.net/4y2he.jpg

Have you tried asking for help from HostGator?

Yes, this has turned out to be quite the chore. I've bought the domain off of HostGator but they said to discuss all this i need to talk to my Host provider, which is myself, but i pay for my dedicated server through datashack, which doesn't have a live chat etc to work with. Theres a lot of options in my cPanel that could work but i don't know which. I just want my forumotion forum to read the domain i bought(example.net), ____.forumotion.net -> ____.net(domain i bought)

besides don't you think that link is a bit outdated? posted in 2007.

Yes its possibly outdated, can't really fix it for different domain registrars.

Maybe, someone else will know.

I just did this today. In your cpanel, find something that says "redirects". Click that. Where it says "http://(www.)?", make sure the drop box next to it has your domain selected. Next, where it says "redirects to→", just put your forumotion address in there. Then just click add. Hope this helps.

Haha Thunder thanks so much for some starting help, and that really is basically what i want to do except REVERSE. Does that make sense?

I want the URL ______.forumotion.net to LOOK like MY domain Chaosera.net so when you go to ____.forumotion.net OR Chaosera.net the website URL READS it as, Chaosera.net instead of .forumotion.net etc.

I see what you mean now. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do that, unless you use credits to buy a domain. Which you won't be able to get the domain you want because you already have it. The only way that I can find is to just create a CNAME. That means "forum.Chaosera.net" Or something else with a subdomain. You can still have "Chaosera.net" redirect to your forumotion forum, just the address bar will show "<subdomain>.forumotion.net"

I've been trying to get it to work. Redirecting your domain doesn't work. The only way I can see it working now is if you buy a domain with credits.

Hello,

You can't make your forum's URL redirects to an external domain name if that's what you asked. Wink

Ah.. well that would've been my first guess. I just wish i could use this domain i bought as opposed to it being useless now QQ.

Theres no way i can use my external domain at all?

It won't be a blank page if it redirects to your forum.

Well yeah lol but what i wanted was for it to stay the same URL

Enter in address bar, Chaosera.net, goes to Chaosera.forumotion.net but appears to stay as Chaosera.net
