A Complaint About Advertising Empty A Complaint About Advertising

Post by PSS-BH November 8th 2013, 2:38 pm

Hello. I like the service offered by Forumotion, but I am NOT at all happy about the quality of the adverts being shown. Evil or Very Mad

I have seen SCAM adverts for iPhone competitions, flashing and moving adverts that could be very dangerous to a person with epilepsy, and ads for pregnancy tests which have caused people to openly mock my forum.

I don't have the money to pay for advertising removal, and of course I'm not asking you to take them away for free, but you must do something about their quality. However you look at it, this is abuse of your users, and I will not pass that onto my own members, nor will I tolerate it myself.

If nothing is done about this, I'm going to have to close down and move to another host.

As far as I know, Forumotion uses "YOUR" Own search history to display ads. So just because you see an add does not mean every one else see the same ads.
There are a number of topics explaining the ADS
I will edit this post when i have a few more minutes.

I have seen these on my test forum and on other FM forums too. Besides, I see no reason why providing my URL will be necessary.

I am well aware of ad tracking, thanks, but it is entirely unacceptable for Forumotion, which presents itself as a legitimate service to use an ad agency which presents scam ads to users.

Sorry, but I'm out.

We cannot help you if you cannot provide the URL. We have generally not seen such ads on our forums.

Forumotion uses Google Ads, so it is how Google ads works is how they work on our forums.

Ads sometimes are based on keywords of a forum or the main subject of a forum.

The reason your URL has been requested is so that forumotion can make the formal complaint to our provider (Which isn't Google, but very similar)  and to locate the add and remove it, entirely from the database.

I would also like to inform you that there is an addon to most browsers called "Ad block plus" (which is free!) that will block all known adds, and is ofcause personally modifyable, or you can just use the default version.

Hello Pss-BH,

1) Forumotion, as any other company on the net, is not responsible for the ads content. The ads displayed depend on your internet navigation and your forum content.
2) That's true, sometimes ads don't fit with your profil and can cause troubles. I recommend you to clean up your cookies. We can also check your forum and make the necessary.
However, without the url of your forum I cannot help you.
I also remember you an option is available to remove ads (via Forumotion credits)

I am available to help you.

Regards
