Dont' lock a solved topic Empty Dont' lock a solved topic

I don't think solved topics should be locked, it doesn't make much sense to lock it... or does it?

It kinda waste the mods time to lock it all the time, and what if the member has extra questions about their problem?

Dont' lock a solved topic Empty Re: Dont' lock a solved topic

Post by RCMZ October 30th 2008, 5:26 am

personally i dont think any topic should be locked, not even if t he request is done or not, it would than prevent alot of the same questions being asked, cuz than someone could go off the original topic with further questions if needed.

the only topics i see that should be locked are if their totally off topic or gona off topic or got out of hand. it makes me mad when i dont say its done, solved or whatever than it gets locked.

OK. Here's what happens.

When a members problem is solved, either they add the solved tag themselves, or a member of staff will add it, then lock the thread. The reason why we lock solved threads is to prevent members from spamming them - it's not a waste of time... it take no longer than 30 seconds.

If a member has more questions to ask, they are more than welcome to open a new thread, after having used the search feature for the answer(s).

It's all standard procedure.

with all respect i dont quite agreed with you there. i mean it good idea to lock thread after its solved but if would be great if mods here not rushing to lock it.

i seen some topic locked not more than a minutes after thread starter say his problem is solved. My point here is what if he find out that solution given not totally solve his problem there? what if there is some issue relating that problem still not solved? Did he must to create another thread for same problem?

so i thnk better to leave solved thread for a while in case thread starter still have doubt about his problem and need more info.

its just my opinion, not meaning anything Smile

It's the members responsibility to ensure that the support given is correct and works, then add the solved tag. If they say "Thank You" or similar, that tells us the problem is solved.

indeed, maybe it not trouble regular members, but im talking about newbie here because usually this group got most question to ask.

people always say thank you, its a common behaviour.Im sure there is newbie say thank you or its solved before even try that solution given whether it working or not, thats my point here.

but, maybe you got the point there, member responsible for they own question Rolling Eyes

They have to lock it! It is a way to pad thier post count. I dont know why they have to make a post to say that they are locking it.

I just do what I'm told.
and a locked topic looks nicer when the last poster is a mod.
plus it prevents Pm spam from members asking why the thread was locked, and we get to know exactly who locked the thread , and when.

I have no problems with the standard procedure of locking threads. It's my job as a Global Mod to moderate the forums. Wink

I agree, and then people start to go off-topic and so on.

locking the topic is the best idea, i have seen many people jump on other peoples threads with their own problems, people sending the topic off topic etc. It also avoids the team having to go through each post to make sure its been sorted, as we see the locked/solved tag...that saves time, it doesnt waste it.

I don't agree with this, because someone might keep on posting the same answer when the topic is solved.

As the staff have already stated, it makes the forum look cleaner when a member of staff is the last poster. Locking also prevents threads going off-topic and having pages and pages of chatter that is irrelevant to the original post.

Sorry, but I'm voting no on this suggestion.

As said above. I like locking topics that are solved. Ive seen most people jump topics and make the others help them. So if you dont like this idea on the support forum then dont use the option on your forum.
